Christopher Spaven is well known for his life drawings of the human form.
His elegant, free sweeping lines are aimed at capturing the individual in a moment of time. All drawings are directly from life of people in various situations. Visual interest is sometimes added by working the charcoal or pastel over a distressed surface reminiscent of ancient frescoes.
With formal training at Perth Technical College and a long career as an awarded art director, illustrator and designer, Christopher is adept at tackling diverse themes in differing media. Eight major exhibitions include paintings of Cottesloe beach scenes, the south Coast, historical Perth, Mongolia and Siberia.
Recently he has painted sculptural themes, in a cubist style, based on the annual Cottesloe Sculptures By the Sea,
Awards received are for work in the differing media of charcoal, pastel, watercolour and oils. Public collections include King Edward Memorial Hospital, Perth City Council, City of Albany, Northam Town Council and Hale School.
